CENTRAL ENGLAND


MANOR FARM, MILTON KEYNES, NORTHAMPTONSHIRE.
Expert witness with respect to suitability of a residential development in a conservation area that affected the setting of a Grade II Listed Building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

EAST MIDLANDS

FULWOOD FARM, SUTTON IN ASHFIELD, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE.
Advice concerning the conversion of ruinous farm buildings within the curtilage of a Grade II listed farm house to residential use.   Following the de-allocation of surrounding land at the Local Plan Inquiry, securing consent for development of 30 houses on basis of enabling development.

ST. HELEN’S HOUSE, DERBY.
Provision of advice to local amenity society upon forming a building preservation trust to rescue outstanding Grade I Town House.   Assembling team to undertake architectural and economic feasibility study.   Helping to prepare and submit initial grant application to Architectural Heritage Fund.   As per AHF rules, architect was project leader.

ALLESTREE CONSERVATION AREA
Preparation of designation assessment and report for the local amenity society and the LPA, of the extension of Allestree Conservation Area, which comprises Mediaeval Village, Industrial Village, Great House Estate and 1930’s planned suburb.

EASTERN ENGLAND

COPRALITE WORKS, PAPER MILL LANE, BRAMFORD, IPSWICH, SUFFOLK.
Assessment of large and heavily polluted Grade II listed early 19th Century industrial building that revealed it was of outstanding historical importance and major industrial archaeological importance.   On going project as this will be used to justify enabling development.

CRANMER HALL, CRANMER, NORTH NORFOLK
Campaign of objection against unauthorised conversion of barn within historic curtilage of Grade II* Cranmer Hall on behalf of owners, followed by acting as expert witness in support of Refusal of Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent.

CULPITTS FARM, MELTON CONSTABLE, NORFOLK
Assessment of a listed 19th Century model farm on the Melton Constable estate to assess whether it was of sufficient architectural, historical and landscape merit to justify conversion to residential use.   Subsequently, advising designer as to form and nature of conversion.

DEREHAM MALTINGS, DEREHAM, NORFOLK
Represented Breckland Council where Members of the Planning Committee granted consent for demolition despite exceptionally strong policy objections and Officer Advice. 

GRANSDEN HALL, GREAT GRANSDEN, HUNTINGDONSHIRE
Secured the renovation of Grade II listed country house exhibiting major structure failures by negotiating a scheme of enabling development.   In addition to work on house, and economic analysis this required analysis of historic park and archaeological scoping to determine site of new development.

KREMLIN STUD, NEWMARKET, SUFFOLK.
Design, listed buildings and conservation area advice relating to the conversion of a Grade II listed stud in the Newmarket Conservation Area to a training yard. Subsequently acted as an expert witness on these issues at Inquiry.

MAUTBY, GREAT YARMOUTH, NORFOLK.
Instructing Planner and expert witness with respect to an Inquiry into a Listed Building Enforcement Notice.   Inspector found for the appellant on all points despite significant departures from approved scheme of residential conversion of barn in curtilage of Grade II listed building.

BEECHWOOD HOUSE, WATTON.
Assembled and lead multi-disciplinary team, including retail planners and master planners, to work up and secure consent for a substantial residential development in the commercial core of Watton Town Centre which comprises a conservation area. 

LONDON & THE SOUTH EAST

HAREFIELD HOUSE, HAREFIELD, UXBRIDGE
Negotiating with Council to secure Conservation Area Consents for conversions and development in the grounds of Harefield House, an important Grade II listed building used as Offices.

HIGHLANDS HOSPITAL, ENFIELD
Conservation consultant, historic buildings consultant and general planner to developer’s team and Council in enabling that conversion of 19th Century fever recovery hospital in conservation area to residential use and forming an additional 1,100 dwellings plus centre and social infrastructure to form urban village.

ISLINGTON, 159, OFFORD ROAD
Assessment, design advice and negotiations with Council in order to secure consent for glass roof top access on a building in the Arundel Square Conservation Area that had not been built according to plan.

POPLAR, ST. LEONARD’S ARMS.
Research into and assessment of architectural merit and condition of unlisted 19th Century public house in Conservation Area.   Findings resulted in retention of building and its successful conversion.

BRASTED PLACE, BRASTED, KENT
Assembling and leading team including landscape archaeologists, architects, environmental consultants and landscape architects who together with English Heritage produced worked up planning, conservation area and listed building applications for renovate major Grade I listed house by Robert Adam and Waterhouse, with replacement residential stable block justified on grounds of Enabling Development.

BURTON PARK, PETWORTH, WEST SUSSEX
Regeneration of highly important but severely degraded Great House Estate by renovation of house and pleasance. Residential conversions and limited enabling development allowed removal of inappropriate uses. Assembled and managed team of 14 professionals, the team being congratulated by LPA who credited them with saving a Great House Estate it deemed beyond rescue.

CAENSHILL HOUSE, WEYBRIDGE, SURREY
Advice as to conservation policy and listable quality of local listed building followed by acting as expert witness in a successful appeal, with an award of costs on this issue.

 SOUTHERN ENGLAND

CRONDALL
Detailed Conservation Area appraisal and management plan, plus historical and environmental research with respect to application for residential development in village conservation area.    Acted as expert witness at appeal.

FARNSCOMBE, HAMPSHIRE
Evaluation of 1920’s Road House surrounded by mediaeval buildings that was due to be demolished as developer had been informed it was not listed and not in a Conservation Area.    Given the quality of the building and the village, the developer could not understand why it was not protected.   Careful searches at Council offices demonstrated the Council’s records were incorrect as to the existence of a conservation area.   Inadvertent illegal demolition prevented.

MILTON COTTAGE, TITSON, MARHAMCHURCH, CORNWALL.
Negotiation of extension and internal alterations to Grade II listed thatched and cob cottage.   (Ongoing).

NORTH WEST ENGLAND

PRESTON, LANCASHIRE
Appraisal carried out on behalf of Civic Trust to assess the potential for a Town Scheme in Preston.

YORKSHIRE AND HUMBERSIDE

BROUGH, HUMBERSIDE
Appraisal carried out on behalf of English Heritage Civic Trust to assess the potential for a scheme of regeneration plus Town Scheme in Brough.

MEANWOOD TANNERY, LEEDS.
Evaluation of structure and form of Grade II tannery to guide the preparation of a scheme of residential conversion with respect to a Victorian tannery.

SALTS MILL, SALTAIRE
Contribution of sections on conversion potential, historic building and conservation constraints and historic buildings grants to economic regeneration study.


HIGHER CROSS FARM, UPPER MILLS, SADDLEWORTH
Commissioned by owner to aid Local Planning Authority which lacked ‘in house’ advice, to resolve problems relating to imprecise listing, including ‘flying freehold’ together with unlawful development executed by adjoining owner.
